About us

GEMMS is a small local charity that has offered friendly and enjoyable groups for people with dementia or memory problems in Stevenage for over 20 years.

The groups we run are based on the principles of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). CST has been shown to have a positive impact on Memory, New Learning Skills, Language and Quality of Life for people with Dementia.

We aim to ensure that everyone enjoys spending time at GEMMS, with varied and tailored activities, including day trips, music, seated exercise and reminiscence.

Whilst people with Dementia have fun and socialise at our groups, we are able to provide carers and family members with a much needed break.

GEMMS welcomes anyone with Dementia or memory problems to attend – if you would like to know more, please complete our contact us form or email us at info@gemms.org.uk and our coordinator will get back to you.

GEMMS runs a group every Tuesday and Friday from 10am to 3pm at Hampson Park Community Centre.

Your first group is free, the cost will be £30 per group thereafter. GEMMS provides refreshments and a hot meal at lunch time for all attendees, this and all activities are included in the price.

Payment must be made by Standing Order weekly. Unfortunately, if you are unable to attend payment must still be made, however if we cancel the group for any reason you will not be charged for this.

At this time we do not provide transport, however if you have difficulty getting to us please take a look at local transport options below:
